David Lachapelle is recognised as one of the world’s truly original artistic image-makers. His photographic work – a diverse combination of reportage and surrealism – has been featured in every publication from Vogue and Vanity Fair to The Face and The New York Times. He has earned international acclaim for his bestsellers, ‘Lachapelle Land’ and ‘Hotel Lachapelle’, and countless awards including VH1 Fashion Photographer of the Year. His advertising work includes campaigns for MAC cosmetics, Girbaud Jeans, Estee Lauder, Volvo, Pepsi, Levi’s, the Notorious Diesel Jeans campaign and a daring and flamboyant Boots commercial for Mother in London.
His reputation as the master observer of celebrity pop culture has seen him create iconic portraits of numerous modern-day stars including Leonardo DiCaprio, Cher, Drew Barrymore, Uma Thurman, Jim Carrey, Faye Dunaway and Tupac Shakur among others. In 2005 he also directed the cult feature film ‘Rize’, an extraordinary documentary about the Krumping dance craze on the streets of South Central, Los Angeles.
